Do we really need an excuse to enjoy this smooth, medium bodied wine? No, but we are happy to provide one!
With around 1500 HA of plantings in Australia, this is yet another variety that we boast some of the oldest continuous producing vines. Most commonly seen as the “G” in “GSM” (Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvèdre blend), winemakers are now showcasing Grenache as a solo artist, showcasing the cherry berry spice (and all very nice) profiles.
Much like pinot noir, Grenache is elegant and easy to pair with food – its best friends are cured meats, hard cheeses, game, light Thai curries, a great backyard barbeque, and meatier fish.
As the weather warms, red lovers can rejoice in a lighter Grenache that has been chilled for a short time before drinking.
You’ll find the best grenache comes from the Barossa, Clare Valley, and McLaren Vale (and Canowindra) regions as the vines relish a slightly warmer climate.
