Red is the theme for these cooler months… but I’m not talking about wine!
Meet Red IPA - A hybrid of modern American IPA and American Amber Ale. Something in the flavour profile that wants me parked in front of a bonfire on a late Autumn afternoon. Perhaps the rich red amber to ruby colour, or the higher levels of bitterness that pair so well with good spiced porky sausages and a jacket potato, maybe throw in a sweet honey ginger cake for dessert… this ale will take you through the whole meal, and heftily support the deep conversations that seem to organically evolve in such environments.
Red IPA tasting notes range from caramel and toffee to dark fruit, from pine and resin to citrus and berry. Stronger with a dry finish, the use of darker crystal malts imparts the more caramel notes not typical of the ever booming New England/Juicy/Hazy IPA category.
Currently in-store, you can find Red IPA’s from Reckless Brewing (Bathurst NSW), King River Brewing(Victoria), Badland’s ”Jaxon” (Orange NSW), and Fox Friday “Lassard”(Tasmania).
