Steve and Fiona Pannell have a couple of vineyards in McLaren Vale, with one planted in 1891. These are seriously old and mature vines. He is winemaker with a great deal of experience, having worked many a year at Hardy's. As wine guru James Halliday described, "The future for the Pannells is limitless, the icon status of the label already well established."
We've stocked a few of Steve's wines for a while, and they continue to impress. The SC Pannell Montepulciano is a particular favourite. Steve describes it as 'Italian giggle juice". "This is not a shy wine, like a brightly coloured, friendly, street hawker with a clove cigarette on an Indonesian island. No wonder it makes us laugh when we open it." Nice.
