Variety Profile: Chenin Blanc

Variety Profile: Chenin Blanc

Calling all Chardonnay lovers!

Feel like trying something similar but still different?  We hear you.

Chenin Blanc is the answer.

Originally from France and big in South Africa, Chenin Blanc is a versatile grape that has been used to produce sparkling, dessert and dry white table wines.

We have some delicious dry styles from Western Australia and South Australia. They are lovely wines that can be enjoyed now and develop beautifully after a few years in the cellar.

“It's pretty easy to like! It’s a good middle ground: between the table, if someone wants a crisp white wine and someone wants an oaky chardonnay, chenin blanc can kind of split the middle in a lot of cases. It has a wide appeal.”  Chris Ryan (currently holds Sommelier’s Australia title of Australia’s Best Sommelier).

We've been excited to watch one of Orange's young guns plant Chenin in the region, with this year seeing them produce a small amount of wine. We're super keen to taste it.
