Adelina Shiraz Mataro

Adelina's Shiraz/Mataro (65:35) was grown in the Springfarm sub-area of the Clare Valley, with the Mataro and most of the Shiraz fruit coming from the famed Aberfeldy Vineyard, plus a little Adelina estate fruit. Adelina's vines are right across the road from Springfarm by the way. The elevation around these parts is a serious 440-metres. All up, an imposing 60-70% of this wine comes from vines with an age of around 100 years! Production-wise it's the routine that has served this estate so well. All fruit is handpicked and destemmed into Col's Italian, unlined concrete vats. Some 65% of the wine is fermented in these tanks before being sent to large format French oak. As the note below makes clear, this is simply a terrific red of great finesse and savoury complexity that also happens to carry a ridiculously fair price. Don't hesitate.
